HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — As people around Connecticut partied their way into the new year, Hartford Hospital welcomed the first baby born in 2014.
East Hartford’s Shaquaina Stephens gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Dior Lariah Stephens made her big debut four minutes after the stroke of midnight.
“Having the first new year’s baby, it is a blessing,” she said.
The bundle of joy weighing in at 6 lbs. and 14 oz. and 21 inches long.
Dior’s grandmother was anxiously awaiting her arrival.
“Oh, I was excited. I was like don’t push yet, okay wait stop, okay now push. I was just excited. I wanted to see her so bad,” said Raychel Stephens, the grandmother.
This is Shaquaina’s first child and says she was pushing to have her little girl on New Year’s Day.
“We were excited. We prayed for it, it happened,” said Shaquaina Stephens.
For the family, it’s a celebration of life and hope for the new year.
“What a way to bring the new year in, with a beautiful baby,” said Stephens.
