Saturday was an awesome day! My squash team had an away game in Kent, CT. Before we were about to leave, the snow started to pick up a bit in intensity. We decided to continue to Kent, as we did not know that the snow was going to be an issue for us. We drove up Avon Mountain, and the snow had already started to accumulate. When we entered Canton, the snow really started to fall pretty moderately. We got into New Hartford, and several pickup trucks and other cars were pulled over, because they could not get up the hills. We decided to continue and I noticed that the plows were having a tough job keeping up with the snow. However, in Torrington, the roads were plowed and the snow started to fall even heavier as we went on. As we got into interior Goshen, the roads were really terrible! Our bus driver was having a tough time driving because the snow was falling so heavily. When we were going down a steep hill, about 20 feet in front of us, a mini cooper skid down the hill, had to regain control, and decided to pull over. We were on Route 4, drove into Cornwall and passed Mohawk Mountain Ski Resort. Right by the sign to the ski resort, we saw this young man running! Finally a mile or two past the ski resort, there was a 9% grade downward hill. There was a car in the middle of the road that lost traction as it was going down. Our bus driver decided to stop on the side of the road. Our coach called Kent to tell them that we could not make it and had to turn around. As we were pulled over, there was a small area of grass that some of our team had a snowball fight on. It was really fun! We turned around, and starting from Torrington, each town seemed to have less the snow than the previous (except some places in New Hartford had more snow than Torrington). As we got into Avon, the snow accumulations really decreased. On top of Avon Mountain there was about 1 or 2 inches of snow, but at the bottom, there was just a coating of snow. As we got into West Hartford, there was no snow that had accumulated, and in Glastonbury there was no snow that had accumulated either. It seemed like we travelled to a whole other state!
