NORWALK, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut pool company worker is facing his first court appearance since being charged with causing several car crashes when he drained water from a pool onto a road and it froze.

Thirty-four-year-old Alfredo Bahena-Benitez is scheduled to be arraigned on a misdemeanor reckless endangerment charge Tuesday in Norwalk Superior Court. He’s free on $1,000 bail.

Police say Bahena-Benitez drained a pool onto a street in Norwalk Jan. 9 and the water froze into an icy sheen. Five vehicles crashed, including one that hit an oncoming city plow and salt truck that was called to treat the road.

No one was seriously hurt.

Bahena-Benitez, who lives in Norwalk, couldn’t be reached for comment. There’s no phone listing for him and it’s not clear if he has a lawyer.
