A New London man was arrested after causing a disturbance at a local restaurant.
Police said Jeffrey Evans assaulted a woman who had a protective order against him. The incident occurred inside Mr. G’s Restaurant on Williams Street.
Evans allegedly began yelling and threatening to use a gun, which caused patrons to seek shelter under their tables. He chased the woman around the restaurant, knocking over tables and breaking items, according to police.
At one point, Evans picked up a chair and threw it at the woman, but missed and hit another patron.
When he was asked to leave the restaurant, police said Evans stole a parked car outside and led police on a chase, before hitting a cement block.
He was apprehended thereafter.
Evans was charged with larceny, criminal mischief, breach of peace, threatening, assault, and violation of a protective order.
He is also being charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, engaging an officer in pursuit, evading responsibility, reckless driving, and driving under the influence.
