Conn. woman charged with assault on infant son

VERNON, Conn. (AP) — A Vernon woman whose 3-month-old son suffered a life-threatening injury to his head last month has been arrested on charges including assault.

Police say the injuries were discovered on Dec. 11 when 24-year-old Amanda McGuire’s son was taken to a hospital’s intensive care unit. The child has been placed in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.

Police say McGuire was arrested Monday and charged with assault, risk of injury to a minor and making a false statement. The court set her bond at $250,000 and she is due in Rockville Superior Court on Tuesday. It was not immediately known if she has an attorney.

The arrest followed an investigation by authorities including Vernon police and the Tolland state’s attorney’s office.
