Target fire evacuates Enfield mall

Target Fire

ENFIELD, Conn. (WTNH)– The Enfield mall was evacuated after a fire broke out at a Target, Monday evening.

The mayor of Enfield Scott Kaupin tweeted “there has been a reported fire at the Target store at the Enfield Square with smoke visible.”

The mall was evacuated and no one was injured.

The fire has been knocked down and the building is being ventilated.

“It really charred this whole building, and if you look at it, it’s a pretty good size building. And it’s still pushing smoke out of it and has a pretty good size openning to the mall, so it filled the mall up pretty good up with smoke where it does exit into there,” said Mark Zarcaro, Enfield Public Information Officer.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the fire and if it was set intentionally. News 8 was told it was possibly a giant box of toilet paper that was lit on fire, but that’s still under investigation.

It’s still unknown if the mall will be open Tuesday.
