WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A big announcement about growing medical marijuana will be made later this morning in West Haven.

Gov. Dannel Malloy, along with West Haven’s mayor and the commissioner of the Department of Consumer Protection, are expected to announce the first official medical marijuana growing facility.

Advance Grow Labs has been pushing to turn an empty warehouse in West Haven into one of a few state licensed growing operations. They won’t sell medical marijuana at the facility, only grow it there.

West Haven’s Planning and Zoning commission approved the medical marijuana operation at the Frontage Road warehouse in July of 2013.

The New Haven Register reports the operation would initially create about 15 jobs.

A news conference is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. News 8 will be there.
