NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH)–There are new questions about a woman who was found dead in New Britain. Police have ruled her death a homicide and believe it wasn’t a random attack.
Regency Apartments were Veronica Skinzera was found dead is a senior building for people 55 and older. Neighbors say it’s not uncommon for someone to die there.
Police say 49-year-old Skinzera may have known her killer.
Neighbors who live in her building told News 8 that they had a lot ideas about what might have happened to her. But overall they are terrified that a killer is on the lose.
“You know some people die here because they are old people and they are sick or something like that, but not like that,” said a resident.
But Skinzera was murdered. Her killer still out there and people who live there are scared.
“We are very worried,” said the resident.
“I worry because I don’t know how people come in here and do things like that,” said another resident.
“They scared you know. I heard this guy is still running loose. I heard they didn’t catch him, you know so everybody is panicking,” said a woman who lives in the building.
The building where Skinzera’s body was found seems secure. You have to be buzzed in to get inside.
Police are saying it’s possible Skinzera knew her killer.
She was found dead shortly after 2:00, Monday afternoon, after someone did a wellness check on apartment 410.
New Britain police believed the circumstances of Veronica Skinzera’s death were suspicious. But now the medical examiner has ruled it a homicide. As police piece together what happened, neighbors try to figure things out for themselves.
“A mail truck parked here and a police car was parked behind it, matter of fact they were back and forth because they were looking for this guy, the same guy,” said the woman.
And with the killer still out there, people in the Regency Apartments say they will continue to be on high alert.
Neighbors say Veronica Skinzera lived in that apartment where she was murdered with a man, but police would not confirm if that was true.
