ST. LOUIS, MO. (CNN) – The Braun family just celebrated their daughter’s fourth birthday. A package filled with gifts arrived in their mailbox from the girl’s aunt in St. Clemente, CA. A few days later, another package arrived from the same city and shipping company. The package was addressed to the birthday girl and was filled with treats.
“Because we had just received an envelope from them with the same company two days prior, I didn’t think anything of it. My daughter and I ate; one was like a mini muffin, and then hers was like a star treat,” said her mother, Christine Braun.
Soon after they ate those treats, Christine Braun knew something was wrong.
“I could not feel my body, but I kept having sensations that I went to the bathroom on myself I kept having sensations that my blood was really thick and the skin was going to break,” said Braun.
The family called their relative in California who said the treats did not come from her. They called 911 and ended up at St. Anthony’s not knowing what was wrong.
Braun says she and her four-year-old daughter tested positive for highly concentrated levels of THC, the mind altering substance found in marijuana.
“I just can’t believe somebody would do that and the fact that it was addressed to my four year old daughter, is what scares me. I don’t want this to happen to somebody else,” said Braun.
The package and rest of the treats were turned over to police. Jefferson County authorities confirm they are investigating.
“It’s disgusting and they need to be put in jail for this. I won’t rest until they are put in jail,” said Braun.
