Dead man’s home burglarized

NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) — On the same day a man died after falling into a trash compactor, a woman was arrested for burglarizing his home, New London police said.

59-year-old Floyd G. Smeeton of New London was pronounced dead after an industrial accident at the New London Transfer Station.  When police left to secure his home on Borodell Place, they found 24-year-old Danielle Sullivan on her way out of the house with a trash bag full of his belongings.

Police say Sullivan initially tried to resist arrest. When she was brought into police headquarters,  officers found what they suspect to be a small amount of PCP in her system.

Sullivan faces multiple charges including burglary, larceny, attempting to assault a police officer and tampering with evidence.
