Police investigating New Haven’s second homicide of year

New Haven, Conn (WTNH)— New Haven Police are investigating the city’s second homicide of the year.

New Haven Fire Department EMTs were dispatched to the intersection of East Pearl Street and Pierpont Street shortly before 10:30 Friday night, following reports of an unresponsive person. Police were called to the scene after it was determined the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

The victim, 33-year-old Varnouard Hall, of New Haven, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are investigating a report of a Hispanic man walking from the scene and he may have driven off in a silver two door car.

Police say there were no calls to 911 to report gunshots anywhere within the city prior to the victim being found. The department’s Major Crimes Division and the Bureau of Investigation are investigating. Anyone who has information are asked to contact New Haven Detectives at 203-946-6316.
