WATERFORD, Conn. (AP) — One of the two nuclear reactors at the Millstone Power Station has been shut down due to an issue with the electrical supply for a water pressurizer.

Neil Sheehan of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission says an electrical short halted the flow of electricity to heaters for the pressurizer. The plant was required to shut down the reactor because an emergency diesel generator that can be used to provide backup power was already out of service.

Millstone spokesman Ken Holt said Friday afternoon that the electrical issue was fixed but the reactor cannot come back online until the generator is available.

Sheehan said the NRC inspectors assigned to the plant in Waterford are monitoring the company’s troubleshooting and any repairs.
