New Haven firefighter remembered after losing battle with cancer

A New Haven firefighter was remembered Saturday after losing his battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jaime Polite received many awards and honors while on the force, including saving a drowning man at lighthouse point park while off-duty.

He passed away at age 44.

Polite was honored at the Southern Connecticut State men’s basketball game on Saturday.

The Project Purple foundation in his name has been set up to help raise money to battle cancer. 

Anyone interested in donating to the fund can visit the website or make checks payable to Project Purple at 141 South Main Street in Beacon Falls.
