ORANGE, Conn. (WTNH) — With another winter storm in the forecast for tomorrow, power companies are preparing now to handle any potential threats.
“We continue to watch the storm and as things progress we escalate our processes and our process for the storm,” said Michael West, Director of Communications at United Illuminating.
Before winter weather strikes, there are those working to mitigate any potential threats.
“Right now we’re actually having preparation calls with not only our internal staff, but we’ve actually even had some calls with some of the mutual assistance groups that we deal with across the country,” said West.
Welcome to the Operations Center located at the United Illuminating Company’s headquarters in Orange, Connecticut. Here, technology meets logistics and planning.
“This is just sort of the brains of how we manage a lot of the activity,” explained West.
With another round of snow on the way, United Illuminating could soon be a very busy place.
“We work collaboratively in this room, and as well in other rooms, to make sure we’re communicating effectively. We’re getting the information to the field and that information from the field is coming back in our database,” said West.
If you notice a problem in your neighborhood, there is a role you can play as well; just pick up the phone.
“It’s helpful to us to put into our systems to understand how to attack the issue,” said West.
There is no telling what Mother Nature might bright until she stops by. But for now, Michael West says it is clear that his team is doing all that they can to face this most recent storm head on.
“It gives us a leg up in the game,” said West.
