HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Police have arrested a Philadelphia man accused of stabbing a friend who he was staying with in Hamden, while trying to steal a machete.

New Haven police say 25-year-old Kevin Jackson was arrested Monday night while attempting to steal a machete from the New Haven Walmart. He was turned in to Hamden police and was charged with Assault in the 1st Degree and two counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor.

Hamden police say earlier that night they responded to a stabbing on Fourth Street around 8:15 P.M. When they arrived on the scene they found 24-year-old Geoffery Golding with multiple stab wounds to his stomach and arm.  He was taken to Yale-New Haven hospital with serious injuries.

After investigating, police determined Jackson was staying with Golding. According to police, Golding was in his bedroom when Jackson began knocking on the door repeatedly, when he answered, Jackson stabbed him multiple times in front of his girlfriend and two small children. They locked themselves in the bathroom and called police. Jackson fled from the residence.

Jackson is being held on a $500,000.00 bond. He will be in a Meriden court on February 25th.
