MYSTIC, Conn. (WTNH)– Wednesday night, people across the state were scrambling to get supplies for this upcoming storm. One local hardware store just got a stockpile of rock sale just in the nick of time.
We’ve heard of towns being low on salt but it’s happened to residents too. A hardware store doesn’t have too much sand and all the ice melt was all gone until right now. They just got a delivery.
A sight for sore eyes on the eve of what may be a more typical shoreline storm, a snowy mix meaning icy driveways and walkways.
When asked if they are able to restock, John Daigle, Cash True Value said, “yes after being out for a week.”
The last time Cash True Value in Mystic got a rock salt delivery was Friday afternoon and it was sold out by Saturday morning.
“Calling about every five minutes,” said Daigle.
A delivery comes just in time for folks who started searching for it as soon as they knew another storm was on the way.
“Places are running out of rock salt left and right. I stopped by here and fortunately they just a few bags in so I”m picking up a few bags to melt away the slipperiness. Perfect timing for you. Perfect timing absolutely,” said Sam Biel, Samuel Biel Landscaping.
Cash True Value sells hundreds of shovels each season and those they still have but you can be sure these two snow rakes, which also just came in, will be going out quickly. Folks are worried as much about ice build up on their roof as they are they’re walkway. For that though there are now more options.
“It works a lot quicker than the rock salt, it doesn’t require the sunlight like the rock salt does,” said Daigle.
We’re learning a lot about the different types of ice melt. While this fastmelt melts the ice instantly, the ice away there provides traction even though it does need the sun to break up the ice.
