Police investigate death of 8-month-old girl

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– A frantic mother turned to a neighbor for help knowing something wasn’t right with her baby. Sadly, the baby died and the mother is in the hospital. Lots of questions are being asked now about exactly what happened.

Police were called out after 2:00 PM to reports of an unresponsive 8-month-old girl inside apartment at 90 park street at George Crawford manor.

According to officers, the child’s mother went to the neighbor’s house to get help and that’s when the neighbor called 911.

When paramedics arrived, they found the infant in cardiac arrest. She was brought to the pediatric emergency department at Yale – New Haven hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

According to officials, the child was in the care of her mother, who has since been admitted to the hospital for treatment of an undisclosed illness.

“I looked out the window and I saw the people taking the baby away, that’s all I see. I don’t know,” said a neighbor.

W veryone was just watching to see what happened.”

No charges have been filed in this case.

The cause of death remains under investigation.
