NEW HAVEN, Conn (WTNH)– Local firefighters and emergency response personnel put their heads together, and shaved them to raise money for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

Fire departments from North Haven, East Haven, and West Haven are among many that came to O’Tooles Pub in New Haven to support the cause.

Businesses in the area donated money and services.

West Haven Firefighter Tony Mancini says he shaves his head every year for childhood cancer research. Mancini says  “This year I raise money for in memory of a little girl named Casey Ridgeway from West Haven who lost her battle this year with cancer she leukemia it’s just a rewarding experience.”

Some fire departments set up challenges to see who can raise more money. In New Haven County,  the East Haven fire department won. They raised more $14,000.

Jason Cusack, a North Haven firefighter that spearheads the event,  says  that in 7 years more than $500,000 has been raised.
