WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– A teen was detained by West Haven police after a glass aquarium was smashed in the middle of a street and a garage was engulfed in fire, early Sunday.
Police say they were handling a hazardous condition of someone smashing a glass aquarium in front of 375 Elm Street around 1:30 AM, when they noticed signs of a fire nearby.
Firefighters then responded to a fully engulfed garage fire behind 122 Clark Street.
Police believe the two incidents may be connected. Officers detained a 14-year-old who walked up to them at the scene and acted suspiciously.
Police say the juvenile’s footprints were also found in the snow near the fire. While the teen admitted to smashing the aquarium, he denied any involvement in the fire.
The teen also told police he had a video of the fire on his iPhone.
The incident is under investigation.
The name of the teen will not be released due to his age.
