New Haven Police Department promotion lawsuit

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A lawsuit was filed by a group of African American police officers in New Haven who claim they have been passed over for promotions.

According to the New Haven Register, a state judge has decided the case will go to trial in April.

The case began in April 2009 with a sergeant’s promotional exam.

The 10 officers involved the suit say that the city only certified the results for one year instead of the normal two.

That meant they would have been forced to retake the test, or miss out on any promotional opportunities that would became available between April of 2010 and April of 2011.
