Waterbury woman found not guilty in crash that killed friend

Waterbury, Conn. (WTNH)–A Waterbury woman who police said drove the wrong way down I-84 in Waterbury and killed her friend in a crash was found not guilty by a jury today.

Investigators said 22-year old Kaleigh Morgan was behind the wheel when she hit a car head-on, killing Amanda Grenier back in February of 2012. Morgan claimed she was the passenger, and the victim was actually the one driver.

Grenier was 20 years old.

After an investigation that lasted months, police charged Morgan with second-degree manslaughter, DUI and second-degree making a false statement. She was acquitted of those charges on Friday in Waterbury Superior Court.

Police believed both of the girls had been drinking that night.
