WTNH– An e-cig or electronic cigarette is an electronic vaping device that is battery powered and is used to simulate tobacco smoking.
The device uses a heating element that vaporizes the liquid.
An e-cig is usually made up of a cartridge, a battery and an LED light.
Ingredients of the liquid can vary, but may include nicotine, although some can be nicotine free, chemicals to vaporize the nicotine (like propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin), additives and flavoring.
Also e-cigs may deliver toxic chemicals such as formaldehyde, nitrosamines, which is linked to cancer, and lead. They have also been linked to heart disease.
E-cig’s toxicant levels can be 9-450 times lower than cigarette smoke but it can still be dangerous nonetheless.
E-cigarettes can be purchased without proof of age because they don’t contain tobacco, hence not subject to U.S. tobacco laws.
