Overnight freeze, some snow for S. New England

BOSTON (AP) — A flash freeze is expected to bring slippery travel to parts of southern New England overnight and Thursday morning as rain turns to sleet and light snow.

The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories until midday Thursday for parts of Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The area is expected to miss the heavy snow forecast in northern New England and upstate New York, but around 5 inches could fall in the northern Berkshires.

Temperatures are expected to fall into the teens and 20s overnight with snow ending from west to east beginning late Thursday morning.

Two to four inches could fall in north central and western Massachusetts and northwestern Connecticut. An inch or two is forecast for northeastern Connecticut, eastern Massachusetts and northern Rhode Island, with less than an inch on Cape Cod and coastal Connecticut.
