New Haven school gets big musical donation

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — What a sweet sound. Students at one New Haven public school are celebrating a huge donation of musical instruments.

A national foundation has donated the instruments to Augusta Lewis Troup School, where music education is part of the core curriculum. The school currently has almost 150 students in the band program.

Mayor Toni Harp was at the school this morning to talk about the importance of music education.

“It really encourages them to actually enjoy music more because they actually have an instrument that they can use and practice on,” she said.

And now those students will be able to take their instruments home, which is important if you want to practice every day.
