MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Construction is underway on a Milford playground honoring 6-year-old James Mattioli who was killed in the Sandy Hook tragedy.
A team of volunteers from Milford and out of state got are constructing the 17th playground of the Sandy Ground “Where Angels Play” project.
The Milford “Gulf Street” playground will be red and blue, have a sports theme, and feature some of James’ artwork.
“The reason it’s in Milford is because the family has strong ties to Milford. His sister, Anna, will be the foreperson on this job and lead us. So, it’s cathartic for us, but certainly for the family,” said Bill Lavin, The Sandy Ground “Where Angels Play” Project.
The group hopes to complete the playground by March 22nd and have all 26 of them completed by this summer.
