BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut jury has sentenced a man to death for killing two adults and a 9-year-old girl in Bridgeport in 2006.

The Connecticut Post reports the verdict against Richard Roszkowski was announced Monday in Bridgeport Superior Court.

Roszkowski was convicted of capital felony and murder in 2009 for fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend, Holly Flannery, her 9-year-old daughter, Kylie, and Thomas Gaudet in 2006.

A jury in 2009 decided Roszkowski should be put to death, but a judge overturned the sentence because of a jury instruction error. A new penalty phase began Jan. 7. Jurors had only two choices: lethal injection or life in prison.

Connecticut abolished the death penalty in 2012, but only for future murders.
