(WTNH) – A 7-11 worker in Salem, Massachusetts says she’s close to being fired for an act of kindness. She says it’s all because she gave a free coffee to a homeless man. Ava Lins says it happened on a cold night and she felt sorry for the man. She gave him a small cup of joe worth about a dollar. Just as the man was leaving, Lins says her boss walked in and confronted the man demanding to know if he paid for the coffee. Lins says she lied and told her boss the man did pay. She later confessed and paid for the coffee herself but a few days later she learned her name had been taken off the schedule. The boss says he can’t allow his employees to steal from the store. GMCT’s Ali Reed and Teresa Dufour talk about whether the punishment fits the crime or if the boss went overboard.
