(WTNH) –  Officially, today is the first day of Spring.  But in year where we learned a new weather word, polar vortex, you may be surprised to learn the season actually came early. That’s according to NASA,  which has a fleet of satellites that have been monitoring our planet for more than 40 years.  Storm Team 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons and GMCT’s Stephanie Simoni speak to NASA scientist Dr. Michelle Thaller about why and what effect its having on the planet.
