Waterford police track down armed shoplifter

Willard Arahmann Junior

WATERFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– Waterford police tracked down a suspect, who they say was armed when he shoplifted at the Walmart in Waterford.

Police tell News 8 Willard Arahmann Junior was spotted stealing by a loss prevention officer in the store Thursday night.

When he was confronted, he fled. Even more troubling when the security officer tried to stop him in the parking lot, they say he brandished a firearm.

K-9 units assisted in his capture a short distance from the store.

“As the security officer, the loss prevention officer got closer that’s when he turned around showed him the firearm and the officer backed off and called… continued to tell the dispatcher what was going on. Allowed us handle it,” said Lt. Stephen Bellos, Waterford Police.

Police say Arahmann Junior has a long criminal history that includes several aliases.

They also found a firearm which turned out to only be a pellet gun.
