Man engages Waterford police in pursuit on Route 85

WATERFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– A New London man was arrested after engaging Waterford police in a pursuit Sunday morning.

Police say around 7:20 AM, they were looking for Eric Smith-Walker,33, who was wanted for a parole violation.

An officer saw Smith-Walker in a parked car at the Dunkin Donuts on Route 85 and tried to approach him. Smith-Walker then took off, engaging the officer in a pursuit on Route 85.

The pursuit continued on into New London where Smith-Walker eventually got out of his car and fled on foot.

He was later taken into custody on Elm Street.

Smith-Walker was charged with engaging an officer in pursuit, reckless driving, interfering with an officer, taking a motor vehicle without owner’s permission and operating under suspension.

He is being held on $25,000 bond.
