Voice of the People: March 25, 2014

WTNH– In Torrington Middle School there’s a proposition to cut sports. The proposition will eliminate funding to middle school athletics saving the school district $91,000. This had dozens of you calling in to voice your opinion. Here’s tonight’s voice of the people.

“I think they should eliminate the sports in schools, not just in Torrington, in all the schools everywhere.  It’ll save a lot of money, they should focus on more educational programs for the kids. Sports is not productive in any way..better jobs, you know sports just is not helpful,” said Dan, New Haven.

“They have to think about it, that’s just an opportunity for middle school students to not have anything to do after school. They’re to be bored and get into trouble because there’s nothing to do, no bball, soccer, and that’s basically leaves children in the street without anything to do,” said Carol, Hamden.

“Why don’t they give the kids of Torrington the 55 a piece that we’re supposed to get for this budget overload…from Malloy. Malloy is going to spend 1.5 million to mail us $50 or $55, which does not make any sense, why don’t they use it for the children who need it?” said Susan, Wallingford.

“The people of Torrington I say let em do it, even though they’re not going to do it, the people of the town need to remember this whole debacle when it comes time to vote,” said Anonymous, New Haven.
