Harp’s inaugural ball set for Saturday

EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A hangar at Tweed New Haven Regional Airport is getting decked out for a big event Saturday night.

An inaugural ball will be held for New Haven Mayor Toni Harp at Robinson Aviation. Final preparations were being made Friday afternoon.

About 1,200 people are expected to attend. And the mayor says there’s a good reason why the ball’s being held at the airport.

“We think the airport is key to our development of the overall economy in this region and that’s the reason we choose it,” Harp said.

Last fall, Harp became the first woman ever to be elected mayor of New Haven. She was sworn in Jan. 1.
