Teacher struck by SUV outside school dies

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Hebron teacher struck by an SUV outside her school two weeks ago has died from injuries sustained in the collision, a Hartford Hospital spokesperson said Friday.

Dawn Mallory, a RHAM Middle School math teacher, suffered a skull fracture that led to brain bleeding when a motorist during morning drop-off backed into her.

Mallory was 65.

In the days after the March 14 accident, family and friends launched an online fundraising campaign to help Mallory pay her bills. As of late Friday, the page had raised nearly $13,000.

“It’s devastating,” Donna Perry, a next-door neighbor, told WTNH last week.  Perry said Mallory was always lending a hand and even helped tutor her son when he was struggling with calculus.

“After a few sessions he says, ‘Mom I get it, she explained it very simple,” Perry said.
