Bank teller faces sentencing for theft

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A bank teller is facing sentencing for stealing from the CD accounts of mostly elderly customers.

Michelle Laudato of Farmington is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday in federal court in Hartford. She pleaded guilty last year to bank fraud.

Prosecutors say Laudato used her position at a Webster Bank branch in Bristol to steal more than $178,000 from the accounts of at least 18 customers between July 2009 and June 2010. Authorities say most of the victims were in their 80s and 90s.

Laudato’s attorney asked that she receive six months home confinement and 500 hours of community service, saying she paid full restitution and obtained treatment for her gambling addiction and psychological issues.
