One dead in Fairfield tractor trailer crash

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH)– A person has died in Fairfield after a car went under a tractor trailer truck and caught fire Sunday morning.

Police say at around 6:30 AM, they responded to a multi-vehicle accident on I-95 northbound near the exit 22 rest area. A car was found on fire, under a tractor trailer truck with one person trapped inside.

The fire department quickly controlled the fire and began extrication with hydraulic rescue tools to gain access to the person.

It was then determined that the occupant had no pulse.

A heavy duty wrecker was brought in to lift the trailer off the car.

Police say the scene required at least 24 emergency response personal to extricate the person from the car.

The accident is under investigation. The identification of the driver will be released after family is notified.
