Woman still critical after late night blaze

SCOTLAND, Conn. (WTNH) – A woman remains in critical condition at Bridgeport Hospital’s burn unit with injuries sustained in a fire that caused extensive damage to her Brooklyn Turnpike home.

Firefighters were called to the blaze about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Upon arrival, they met the woman’s husband on the front lawn. The woman had just crawled out on a second floor balcony.

Firefighters climbed a ladder from the house and pulled the woman from the flames.

“She was talking when they got her and then she passed out,” said Scotland fire chief Tony Kasacek.

The woman was transported to Windham hospital before being life starred to Bridgeport.

The husband and one firefighter suffered minor injuries. Investigators are working to determine a cause.
