GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) — Proceedings before the trial of a Greenwich man accused of bludgeoning his wife with a baseball bat will be delayed until the couple’s divorce is final.

The Greenwich Time reports that a Superior Court judge ruled last week to continue the case until May 7, the day after Michael and Diane DeMaio divorce.

Court documents say Diane DeMaio filed papers to separate on Aug. 23, less than three weeks before the Sept. 10 attack.

Authorities say DeMaio snapped when his wife said she’d leave and struck her numerous times in the head and face, leaving her in a coma with a severely fractured skull. She is now able to speak and walk with some difficulty.

Michael DeMaio faces charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
