Man arrested for Vernon porch fire

VERNON, Conn. (WTNH)– A 23-year-old man was arrested for arson after starting a fire on a porch in Vernon Tuesday night.

Police and fire departments responded to 52 Hammond Street around 11:40 PM where they found a comforter blanket burning on the porch, which is attached to the house.

The fire was put out and only caused minor damage to the porch.

The home was occupied during the fire. Due to the suspicious nature, the Vernon fire marshal responded to the home.

It was then determined that the fire was an incendiary fire so officers interviewed people at the scene.

Joshua Lewis, of 52 1/2 Hammond Street was arrested after an investigation.

He was charged with arson, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment. Lewis was held on $100,000 bond.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to call Vernon police.
