Suspicious package investigated near hospital

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A suspicious package across from Yale-New Haven Hospital was nothing dangerous, police said.

Crime scene tape was put up on York Street late Wednesday morning. The road was closed while the bomb squad was called in to check the package.

“It was found to be a small fireproof safe,” New Haven Police spokesman Officer David Hartman said in a statement. “The item posed no danger and was removed.”

No buildings were evacuated.

Hartman said there is no connection between this event and what he called a “false courthouse threat” in New Haven earlier in the morning.
