‘Untimely death’ of infant in Putnam

PUTNAM, Conn. (WTNH) — State and Putnam police are investigating the death of an infant in Putnam.

Local police were called to a home on Mohegan Street a little after 4 a.m. Friday morning for what was reported as an unresponsive child, state police said. The infant was rushed to Day Kimball Hospital, but was pronounced dead.

Putnam police contacted the state police Major Crimes Unit to help conduct the investigation into exactly what happened.

“Major crime detectives conducted interviews with witnesses and examined the entire scene for physical and forensic evidence,” state police said in a news release.

Detectives spent hours at the home investigating the death. The medical examiner’s office will be conducting an autopsy.

No other details about the child have been released.
