Body discovered floating in lake

UPDATE: The Medical Examiner’s office has ruled the death a drowning. No foul play is suspected. Police have not released the identification but say the deceased is not an Orange resident.

ORANGE, Conn. (WTNH) — A body was discovered floating face down in Lake Wepawaug Saturday afternoon.

Police say the body “appeared to have been in the water for a prolonged period.”

The identity of the man is not known at this time. The body was transported to the office of the chief medical examiner, who will conduct an autopsy.

Lake Wepawaug is located off of Grassy Hill Road, behind the American Legion Orange Post 127. It’s a popular spot for fishermen, police said.

Connecticut State Police are assisting detectives from the Orange Police Department.
