FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH)–Police were staked out in front of a home in Fairfield on Monday night after police said a man used a deadly chemical to take his own life.

The chemical, potassium cyanide, is so strong that anyone who comes in contact with it is at risk.

The house, which is on Clinton Street in Fairfield, was surrounded by emergency vehicles, including ambulances stationed around the block. Four men went in with full, Level A hazmat suits on.

Police and fire crews declared the area safe as of 10 p.m. Monday.
