Man, 74, pulled from fire in West Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – A 74-year-old man who was found unconscious in his burning home Thursday afternoon remains hospitalized this evening for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Firefighters were called to 15 Brainard Road about noon Thursday after a police officer patrolling the area reported smoke billowing out the home’s front door, West Hartford assistant fire chief Richard Winn said.

The man was discovered unconscious inside and rushed to the hospital. A dog died in the blaze but a cat was rescued, Winn said. Beside pets, the man lives alone in the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
