(WTNH) – It’s the finest versus the bravest in a bit of a blood feud today in Avon. Before you jump to any conclusions, it’s just a friendly competition. The Avon Volunteer Fire Department and the Avon Police Department are hosting their 5th Annual “Battle of the Badges” blood drive – a friendly competition to see which Department can bring in the most donors for the American Red Cross. According to the American Red Cross, every minute of every day, someone needs blood. That blood can only come from volunteer donors and it’s the mission of the American Red Cross to maintain a safe blood supply. Blood donors are part of a very select group – currently only three out of every 100 people in America donate blood. News 8’s Noelle Gardner as the details on the where and how you can get involved.
