Family of slain Milford student speaks

MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A cousin of the 16-year-old junior who was reportedly stabbed to death inside her high school Friday spoke to media at a press conference this afternoon.

“Maren should be celebrating at her prom this evening with her friends and classmates,” said Edward Kovac. “Instead, we are mourning her death and we are trying as a community to understand this senseless loss of life.”

People on Twitter have taken up the hashtag #RIPMaren to remember Maren Sanchez.

A 16-year-old male has been arrested. Unconfirmed reports indicated the male stabbed Sanchez over what some students said was a dispute over prom.
