Worker tied up in armed cinema robbery

SEYMOUR, Conn. (WTNH)– A maintenance worker was tied up and locked in a closet during an armed robbery of a Seymour movie theater, last Thursday.

Police say shortly after midnight, three masked men entered the Entertainment Cinemas in the Tri-Town Plaza at 814 Derby Avenue and ambushed a maintenance worker at gunpoint.

The suspects threatened the employee and tied his hands behind his back while robbing him of his personal items. They then locked him in a closet before ransacking and destroying the Manager’s Office. They were able break into the business safe and stole an undisclosed amount of cash before leaving.

The victim was not injured and was able to escape the locked closet. He then ran to a nearby business in the plaza where workers there freed the victim’s hands and called police.

Police say one of the suspects was described as a 6’2″ tall, heavy set, Hispanic male, wearing a beige coat and a winter hat. The other two victims are believed to be Hispanic males. All three spoke English and Spanish.

Seymour police are working with Shelton police who are also investigating a similar incident at a local business that occurred the night before, on Wednesday the 23rd.

Anyone with information is urged to call Seymour police at 203-881-7624.
