ROCKY HILL, Conn. (WTNH)– Three students and a school staff member was taken to the hospital after a school bus crash on I-91 in Rocky Hill, Wednesday.

East Haven Superintendent says 6th graders from Joseph Melillo Middle school were heading to the CT Science Center in Hartford on a class field trip when the accident happened.

The superintendent said the students were traveling on three busses when she’s been told that a tractor trailor struck a car and then the car hit the bus.

Three students have been taken to Connectict Children’s Medical Center and one staff member was taken to Hartford Hospital.  Their injuries are reportedly non-significant.

The two busses that were not impacted continued on to the Science Center.  The involved bus has taken the students on it back to the school.  Parents of all involved have been notified and the trip for the students on the bus will be rescheduled.

One of the four lanes on I-91 northbound was shut down around the accident just before exit 23. The accident scene has been cleared.

The accident is under investigation.
