Trooper struck on I-91 in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A Connecticut state police trooper sitting in his cruiser blocking a ramp on I-91 was struck by a car early Thursday morning, state police said.

The accident happened just after 1 a.m. at the ramp from I-91 south to I-95 northbound.The ramp was closed because of flooding and the trooper was blocking access.

State police say a Toyota Camry driven by Adalberto Rodriguez of Ansonia struck the rear and passenger side of the trooper’s Crown Victoria.

State police say the cruiser had its lights on and flashing, and there were flares on the road, before the crash.

Trooper Mike Beauton and Rodriguez were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for examination and treatment.
