NOANK, Conn. (WTNH) – Abbott’s Lobster in the Rough opened for the summer Friday. And first in line was Bill Lehbeck, who shed some light on the scope of the longtime lobster lover’s paradise.
“A friend of mine in Wisconsin told me to come down to Abbott’s when I was in the area,” said Lehbeck.
The first weekend of May is Abbott’s traditional opening weekend. But this year you’ll find some new items on the menu, such as an artichoke appetizer and a bigger 7-ounce hot lobster roll. Then there’s the new start time: 11:30 a.m. as opposed to the old noon schedule.
Thirty-three years in business, what makes this place so great? Depends who you ask.
“I guess it’s the type of butter,” said Joe Flitteron of West Haven. “I don’t know what it is or the environment here … it’s just so good, the lobster rolls.”
Owner Deirdre Mears said “a decent economy (and) a good catch of lobsters,” and it’ll be a good year.
