New Haven teen shot while riding bicycle


NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– A 17-year-old boy is in critical condition after being shot in the back while riding his bicycle in New Haven, Sunday night.

Police say they responded to Read and Goodyear Streets to find the New Haven teen suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower back. He was taken by ambulance to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he has undergone surgery. As of 1 AM Monday, he was listed in critical but stable condition.

Witnesses told police that the victim was riding a bicycle with a group of friends when they crossed paths with several men walking on the other side of Goodyear Street. After the two groups exchanged words, police say one person walking pulled out a gun and fired at the group riding the bicycles.

There is no available description of the suspect at this time.

The incident is under investigation and detectives urge anyone with information to come forward.
